    tonight, for you

    Your sky tonight

Each night astromorphy compares where the Moon really is with your own Sun, Moon, Venus and Mars, and gives you a short forecast and a painting of your sky. Both change every night.

    how it’s made

    Painted the way watercolourists paint

    How a painting is made
    1. Glazes, not gradients. The night is built from dozens of thin, transparent washes. Each is a slightly different, hand-wobbled shape, so pigment pools darker where the washes overlap.
    2. Reserved and lifted. The Moon is left as bare paper, the way a painter masks it out first. The Milky Way and the Moon’s halo are lifted back out of the wet sky.
    3. Spattered stars. Thousands of flicks of white gouache. There are fewer when the Moon is bright, and fewer still close to it, just like the real sky.
    4. Real positions. The Moon’s phase, the planets and which side of the sky they sit on come from tonight’s actual orbital geometry. On meteor-shower nights, more stars fall.
    5. Never the same twice. Palettes are mixed from 40 real pigments, around 380 million combinations. There are nine kinds of landscape. Some nights bring an aurora, a comet, a ring round the Moon, lanterns, fireflies or birds heading home.

350 trillion possible nightly forecasts, 859 million ways tonight’s deck can fall, and a new painting for each of ~79 million birth moments, every single night.
